FAQ's & Volunteer Application Form

1. COST?

Is your experience at New Hope Cambodia free?

NO! You are visiting a third world country, with Siem Reap being one of the poorest Provinces in Cambodia. We are a grass roots, hands on and Non Govt. Organization (NGO). YOUR donations are the only reason we are able to exist and continue our humanitarian work with the poor and desperate.

PLACEMENT FEE USD 250 - be it for 1 week or 6 months.

(This donation goes directly to supporting our Education Centre and Khmer staff salaries. New Hope employs staffs who are also poor, then encourages and funds their higher education.)

For this donation you receive:

  • Communication and support prior to arrival
  • Secure all bookings
  • Collection from airport
  • Orientation around Siem Reap
  • On ground support during your stay
  • Visit and experience our local villages
  • Certificate of participation in our Volunteer Aid Programme

Furthermore, we do sincerely hope you find the time to spread the word and FUNdRAISE before you leave home to further help our children and families. 100% of funds go directly to the support and rehabilitation of families of Cambodia. Most volunteers find this an extremely rewarding and gratifying experience, as well as heaps of fun.

2. ACCOMODATION?

Where will I stay and how much will it cost?

We recommend you stay at our friendly Guesthouse Diamond Villa. Not only is it traditonal, leafy, and a brand new complex close to the centre of Siem Reap and markets, the camaraderie shared between volunteers is a very unique and positive experience.

Please see www.diamondvillacambodia.com

Prices range from US$ 8 per night for a Single room with fan, cable TV, free wi-fi, ensuite and hot water; US$ 12 per night for a Twin room with fan, cable TV, free wi-fi, ensuite and hot water. Air-conditioning extra charge. Monthly discounted rates are also available upon request.
Upon New Hope receiving your Placement Fee, we will secure all bookings for you prior to your arrival; however all accommodation costs will remain your responsibility between your guesthouse/hotel and yourself.

3. HOURS and ACTIVITIES?

What hours would I be expected to work?

SCHOOL

Be it assisting our Khmer teachers with English/Math, Moral lesson, Computer or Sewing lessons, we have 2 shifts Monday to Friday:
Morning shift: 8am to 11am
Afternoon shift: 2pm to 6pm
These hours work well with Voluntourism, allowing half day sightseeing or relaxing/socializing.

HEALTH CENTRE/OUTREACH

For Medical Professionals such as Nurses, Doctors, Dentists, Social Workers, Carpenters, Handymen, we would require
you to commit to at least a half day, be it either morning or afternoon. Most of our Nurses at present and our Khmer Doctor work a full day treating approximately 100 patients per day, so any extra help is greatly appreciated.

Please note: We accept only longer term volunteers to our Outreach Programme, a minimum of 1 month.

FARMING / CHICKEN, FISH, MUSHROOMS, AGRICULTURE

We require a half day commitment of 8am to 11am to our sustainable projects. We need expertise and guidance in most areas, as well as on ground exemplary role models and lateral thinking in further developing our Farm.

4. SIGHTSEEING?

What about tours and seeing the sights?

New Hope Cambodia also offer personalized Educational and Cultural tours to Angkor Wat and surrounding Temples, Floating Villages, Kulen Mountain and all tourist attractions. Transport to other provinces such as Phnom Penh, Battambang etc. by bus or air can also be arranged. In booking one of our tours, you are helping to support New Hope community and provide employment to our local guides who are working hard to support their families.

All tours can be organized with our Tourism Office at our Community Centre or by email info@newhopecambodia.com If you are a lone volunteer, don’t despair, as often you will meet other volunteers looking for company to see the sights.

ENTERING and EXITING CAMBODIA

This of course is a personal preference, but New Hope strongly recommends you do. Most Travel Agents can organize comprehensive Medical Insurance for you at a very reasonable cost.

8. FUNDRAISING?

We encourage all volunteers to undertake a FUNd-RAISER Event, both for your benefit and ours. This is your opportunity to spread the word about your adventure and the people of Mondul 3. This is your first challenge before you arrive in Cambodia and the reward to both sides is insurmountable. It does not have to be a mammoth event, whatever your energy and time allows. There are many Fundraising websites available with a huge list of great ideas.
The simplest and safest way of transferring funds abroad with no transfer costs to you is via our website prior to your departure from your home country. If you have a preference for your funds to be directed to a certain area of New Hope, please note this in the comments section while making your Donation Transfer on our Donations page, or advise by email. Another option is to present New Hope with your hard earned donation upon your arrival and Induction, wherein you will receive a receipt for your much appreciated and lifesaving funds.

During your first week of volunteering not only shall you be introduced to our students at our daily Assembly, you will also at this time receive a sincere vote of thanks from our school for your efforts. Whether it be $50 or $5,000 raised, every sum is greatly appreciated, and no amount will be disclosed to our students and staff without your consent.
